♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ >> tim: welcome to "the jeep post-game show," tim brando in new york. navy wins the commander-in-chief's trophy. for the second straight week sad news in the nfl dallas nose tackle josh brent charged with intoxication manslaughter after driving a car in a single-vehicle accident early this morning which killed the lone passenger cowboys teammate jerry brown, a member of the practice squad. irving, texas police spokesman had this to say early today. >> mr. price brent was asked to perform some field sobriety tests. after he performed those field sobriety tests based on his performance of those tests

along with our officers' observations and the conversations that they had with him, he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. once our officers learned that mr. brown had passed away then mr. price brent was under arrest for intoxication manslaughter. >> tim: brent and brown were teammates at the university of illinois. brent was suspended from the illini team in 2009 after a d.u.i. arrest. he was sentenced to 60 days in jail. 200 hours of community service and two years probation for that offense. his current charge is a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000. "what is happening in egypt is not egypt," he said. street violence is driving and inhibiting the political process. opposition supporters have laid virtual siege to the presidential palace and are threatening further unrest if the president doesn't back down. what can the opposition do about this? >> the opposition is helpless and is divided and is without division. >> reporter: that leaves the streets as a forum for what passes as political discourse and the army as referee. it's a role they may have to fill for some time. morse seinsisting a referendum be held next weekend to vote on a constitution written by his party and islamist allys.

the opposition want ones drawn up that reptz everyone's interests. maurice glawrmarr glub turning to libya the civil war could be approaching a turning point. rebels are threatening the damascus airplane of airport the assad regime's lifeline to its few remaining allies. >> reporter: the outskirts of damascus have become a battleground with some of the fiercest fighting the city has seen yet. syrian rebels say they're closing in on the capital street by street. now, within their sights is their biggest target. the damascus international airport, about 12 miles southeast of the city. heavy dom bardment is reported today in the suburbs in the surrounding area. rebel leaders called the airport a legitimate target and gave a stark warning to the regime and outside travelers to avoid it at all costs. fighting near the airport forced the suspension of

commercial flights this week. some airlines have already stopped all together. a rebel takeover of the airport would also cut off weapon supplies and allies like iran says andrew tabler of the washington institute near east policy. >> as the country's longest runways, from that location that jets from iran land, carrying a lot of sophisticated weapones, so knocking that location out. taking it over and holding it would allow the rebels to begin their push towards damascus without having the threat of resupply from the iranians. >> reporter: that makes it far too valuable for forces loyal to syrian president bashar al-assad to give up without a fight. the battle for damascus and its airport might prove to be the bloodiest in more than 20 months of syria's brutal civil war. charlie d'agata, cbs news london. >> and we'll be right back in just a moment. i

entitlement spendings cuts on top of the $1 trillion in spending cuts i signed into law last year. >> reporter: his remarks came one day after house speaker john boehner announced the talkes were stalled. >> well, this isn't a progress report because there's no progress to be report. >> reporter: his democratic counter-part ploals blamed boehner for the stalemate. >> what they offered in return was an empty letter lacking in specifics. >> reporter: such is the state of negotiations 23 days before the deadline when federal income tax rates will revert to higher clinton-era leveles, a 2% payroll tax cut will expire, and long-term unemployment benefits will dry up for over two million americans who have been out of work for six months or more. on friday boehner did not rule out a compromise on a tax hike for top earners, somewhere between today's 35% and of rate and the clinton-era's throan.6%. >> there are a lot of things
